6 tips to clean up your social media act!

after acing that job interview and impressing everybody with your charm, sense of humor and intellect, you go home and boast about your accomplishment for the day. You tell all your family and friends that you are just a phone call (or email) away from your dream job. I mean, you did wear your best suit and best smile to that 3-hour meeting. You start picturing what it would be like joining that organization you love so much, becoming part of the corporate family and climbing up the career ladder swiftly.
You wait… but the hours turn into days, and the days into weeks. At best, you receive an email that your application has been rejected. At worst, you don’t hear back from anyone, and you struggle to get closure.
Sure, it may be that they may have found someone more suitable for the position. But have you ever considered that this modern-day double-edged sword, called social media, might be the reason you were ruthlessly turned down?

Think about it. We live in a digital age where unfortunately, all our information is out there for the public to see, potential employers included.
According to Locket’s data, on a given day, the average user checks his or her phone 110 times per day, with its highest frequency users unlocking their home screens many times more.
This means that, the probability of a potential employer stalking you on social media (for lack of a better term), is expectedly high.
Take the time to go through your social media profiles before applying for jobs. Clean up your act, and you just might get that job you’ve always been dreaming of.
These tips may come in handy:
1- Have you ever ‘googled’ yourself?
Don’t think of it as arrogance. Think of it as a precaution. You never know what dirt the internet has over you.
2- Privacy, privacy, privacy
Facebook keeps changing its privacy settings. Make sure you go through your settings, and consider limiting all previous posts in case some of them are public.

3- Delete all incriminating photos.

The UAE is a fun place to live, and sometimes you can have a little too much fun. However, employers won’t necessarily consider ‘bar hopping’ a superior skill.
4- A picture is worth a thousand words.

No amount of privacy settings can prevent employers from seeing your profile picture. A presentable one comes in handy more often than you think. Avoid pouting and questionable backdrops (such as a toilet seat).
5- You are what you share.

Twitter in particular can get you in a lot of trouble if you share the wrong content. For example, don’t disclose the finale of Game of Thrones before everyone gets a chance to see it. You would be surprised how many potential employers love the show.
5- Those Facebook updates.

Outing your previous boss as stupid or incompetent on your Facebook wall may hinder your job search. Use your Facebook wall to post pleasant updates that exude an easygoing, fun personality.

An almost scientifical dubizzle approach to hoarders

you can’t seem to throw anything away? Or are you high-level OCD and have a hand vacuum on the dining table as you eat (to an extent where you make your guests wear covers that can be hosed down)?

First, it’s important to note that we’re not here to make fun of you guys – we at dubizzle seem to be just as messed up as you… no pun intended!
You’ll see that 36% of the dubizzle employees don’t throw things, or only when forced. And the only hoarding exception seems to be 3% angelic creatures (of whom we’re not even sure they really work at dubizzle).

As you read this you probably scratched your head or chewed your nails, but also you’ve probably found yourself in one of those hoarding categories. Cause come on, we’re all not THAT special.
If you agree, you might also second some of the things dubizzlers don’t want to throw:
Enough now with the graphs, for crying out loud it’s the weekend! Here’s the really important piece you should probably take away from this: Decluttering is really good for you.
1) It creates space in your house, and you can reinvent your apartment with new colors and rearranging the furniture.
2) They say that emotional attachment to old possessions can actually be in your way of new experiences and relationships. So let go.
3) Clutter is a source of stress, whether it’s hidden or in the open. And you’re badly in need of some relaxation after all the EXPO 2020 bubble or no bubble chat.
4) Decluttering saves you a lot of time – because you’ll spend less time searching for that one thing. Unless you forgot it’s gone.  Then good luck.
5) It just simply feels good.
Unless you’re planning to host OCD sufferer groups in your house, you have force-field-like powers or your apartment is made entirely out of Teflon, it’s not gonna declutter itself I’m afraid and you’re gonna have to get started on your own.
And if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s this: You work too hard and are spending way too much on rent to be hating the space you live in. Case and point.
We’ll make it a little easier for you, cause over the next weeks, there will be loads of practical and not at all uninteresting tips for your next decluttering mission – and it could be now, right?

Again in 2013, Naspers increased their stake in dubizzle in order to facilitate even more aggressive expansion, and secure their majority ownership in the business. Aside from funding, Naspers, brings an immense amount of knowledge in the e-commerce and classifieds space in emerging markets, as they are one of the largest classifieds and emerging market internet players globally. Their approach is hands off, yet supportive with strategy, training and knowledge sharing wherever needed.
